Upcoming Performances Here are some links to performers that will be sharing their music at the Highwire Gallery in the near future. Friday, May 9, 2008 @ 7:00 pm $5+ donation Sewer Election: Raw, textured grit amid turbine electronics & harsh metalic hell, [Sewer Election] is devastating noise decadence from Sweden's Dan Johansson. (http://sewerrituals.blogspot.com/, review from http://www.iheartnoise.com/news.htm) the Rita: Almost academic in his noise purity obsession, The Rita mercilessly charts every nuance of crunch & crumble, the space between demolition, white out & heavy flood. (http://bakurita.blogspot.com/, review from http://www.iheartnoise.com/news.htm) (from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) Oscillating Innards: Realized in 2001, Oscillating Innards is a solo audial manifestation of Gordon Ashworth (also of Concern, Knelt Rote, Black Air). Expressed through vehement, deliberate electro-acoustic harsh noise, deep drone compositions, and tonally complex sound collage, recent performances and recordings focus on themes of depersonalization, failed art and maudlinism. (http://www.iatrogenesisrecords.com) (from Portland) Work/Death: WORK/DEATH tries to recollect the pieces of a fevered dream about the transition from teenage heavy metal onto the adult slag heap. Processed electric bass navigating amnesia and automatic response. Sometimes they even visit your town. After debuting with the 2005 soundtrack to his own film "The Doctor", Nöla has gone on to release 3 more full lengths and entertained the moody cabarets of Germany and Spain. But what is to come next? Thomas Nöla will perform his set with an intimate, stripped-back lineup. More at www.eskimofilms.com David E. Williams Though he's dabbled in cabaret, abrasive electronics and even film scores, David E. Williams is best known for electro-symphonic pop and a lyrical humor so dark that it's not really funny. Some might call it gallows humor, but "gas chamber humor" is a bit more accurate for his love songs rife with murder, abuse and obscure references to eating. Williams has been described as "Barry Manilow's evil twin" (Jim Knipfel, NY Press), "Liberace with a brain tumor" (Michael Moynihan, Blood Axis) and "Andrew Lloyd Webber in the final stages of cerebral cancer" (Headpress, U.K.). In 2007, Italy's Old Europa Cafe Records released THE APPEAL OF DISCARDED ORTHODOXY, a critically-acclaimed double CD of 38 international artists covering Williams' songs. www.davidewilliams.com Sunday, May25th @ 8:00 pm The Deep End Ensemble The Deep End Ensemble blends 21st century music theory, experimental counterpoint, exotic harmony, global rhythms, dimensional music elements, spontaneous improvisations, and authentic emotions to form evolving sound structures. This fusion creates unique melodic contours, moods, imagery, and spontaneous interaction which manifests into novel listening experiences. http://www.myspace.com/thedeependensemble We do what we can to maintain accuracy, but performers, prices and times are subject to change without notice. |
