Statement

"Encountering beauty" and translating it into an artwork has been the theme of my artwork in recent years. Like other experiences in life, we encounter beautiful things and objects in unexpected moments and places. They are often found in small details of what nature has wrought on neglected objects, in life-stories of those who have long been forgotten, and in unexpected moments of our unplanned and complex inner journeys. 

These encounters are expressed through mixed media including sand, coffee grounds, acrylic, oil, oil pastel, and others. They are done naturally, often without planning. As I labor on these artworks, I encounter beauty displayed before me in unpredictable shapes and colors. I have encountered beauty in life, and I encounter beauty again as I translate them onto a canvas. My wish is that viewers also encounter beauty – the beauty that has been latent in the eyes of the beholder.
