I started working on paintings for this show the same way I always do, without any clear goal in mind, but a number of broad concepts which I wanted to work into the pieces. I used weathered printing frames again, as in the Tangents show, but this time I experimented more with the texture and appearance of the frame. Some were cut into smaller frames, some were painted, but all were sanded and varnished to bring out more of the beauty of the wood.

The paintings themselves are constructed much in the same way as the Tangents pieces, incorporating foreign-language texts, newspaper, catalog clippings and found objects. These are painted with acrylics and given a weathered appearance through a variety of methods. I was more conscious of blocks of text as pattern with these pieces, as seen in Nautilus, which has a background consisting entirely of an Italian-language scientific journal and The Cellist, which has a figure constructed of newspaper clippings. I also began working more with intentionally wrinkled surfaces as a way to produce interesting textures.
